Participate in your life

October 4, 1994

Participate in your life. The name of the game is your willingness to participate in your life. – John-Roger, DSS (From: Loving Each Day, p. 120)

The name of the game is your willingness to participate in your life” highlights a fundamental truth: the success, fulfillment, and direction of your life depend largely on your active engagement. Life presents us with endless opportunities, challenges, and experiences, but the key to unlocking their potential is our willingness to step forward and take part.

Willingness implies not only being ready to act but also embracing the unknown, the uncomfortable, and the unpredictable. It’s about showing up, even when you don’t have all the answers, or when fear and doubt creep in. Participation in life is about taking ownership of your choices, decisions, and actions. Rather than passively allowing circumstances to dictate your path, you actively shape it, making deliberate efforts toward personal growth, relationships, career, or even self-discovery.

This concept challenges the idea that we are mere spectators or victims of fate. While external forces and events can influence us, how we respond and adapt is within our control. By choosing to participate in life, you open yourself to possibility and transformation. You embrace responsibility for both the successes and the setbacks, recognizing that each experience contributes to your journey.

Willingness also involves vulnerability. It’s the courage to fail, to learn, and to try again. Growth doesn’t happen in isolation or stagnation. When we fully participate, we learn more about our potential, our resilience, and what truly matters to us. In relationships, it means giving fully of yourself, risking rejection but also inviting love and connection. In work, it means taking risks, pursuing passions, and investing time in things that align with your values.

Ultimately, your willingness to participate in your life defines the quality of the life you lead. It is the difference between living reactively and intentionally, between surviving and thriving. The name of the game is commitment to being an active player in shaping your destiny.
