Gratitude - An Antidote

Gratitude – An Antidote

November 22, 1994

Gratitude – An Antidote – If you are experiencing lack in an area of your life, try gratitude as a possible antidote.

When we are caught in lack, our attention is focused out into the world where the eyes are always hungry. We freeze and become tense. We move into resistance and thus we build our prison and live in lack.

Try these practical tools for lifting from lack, and expanding into gratitude.

Count Your Blessings

Gratitude is a powerful antidote to lack and negativity. When you are feeling up against it, the simple approach of counting your blessings can help you. This is a way of focusing on the good things in your life even while you are aware of the challenges you are facing and taking steps to handle them.

See Your Life Through the Eyes of Your Soul

Who you are is a Soul, and from the point of view of the Soul, there is nothing wrong with anything that is happening in your life. For the Soul, there are only experiences.

Change Your Focus and Attitude

Shifting any feelings of wrongness over your experiences or how you are handling them takes a change of focus and attitude. This does not mean to deny what is going on but to acknowledge it and then focus on the good things in your life and be grateful for them.

Gratitude as an Approach for the Rest of Your Life

Gratitude is a choice, an attitude, an approach towards life. My gratitude for this moment does not depend on what is going on in this moment; it is the moment, regardless of what is going on, that i am grateful for. My gratitude for this breath is not about the breath. It is that i am breathing, that i recognize it comes from a higher Source, and that I am alive. Gratitude is a moment-to-moment celebration.

Observe whether anything changes inside you. Look on this practice as a fun, exploratory adventure. Of course, if you don’t like that idea, you can just say, “I love this.”
